Society's Quest for External Validation.

💫”If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?”

💫If you have symptoms of a medical condition that has not yet been officially diagnosed, are your symptoms real?

💫If your child creates, what they believe to be, a beautiful piece of art in school but doesn’t receive a certificate of recognition in assembly, was it ever beautiful?

💫If you spend a long time choosing an outfit and applying make-up for a social media post that only receives 5 likes, are your efforts and appearance still enough?

I think the answer to all of these questions is a resounding YES! (I am, admittedly, least sure about the very philosophical tree question but, for me, in this context, the tree will still cause sound-making vibrations and have sound potential, whether a creature cares to bring a pair of eardrums to the show or not!)

And I think we have lots of work to do as a society to stop questioning our own lived experiences while stumbling around in the haze that comes with an absence of external validation. We can always benefit from trusting ourselves that little bit more, and not entrusting too much of our self-worth in the opinions of others.
